Happy New Year everyone!
So as I wrote in a previous post, I'm going to try and work through The Librarian's Skillbook: 51 essential career skills for information professionals by Deborah Hunt and David Grossman (2013). It is an American book, but that might be good for me as I work at a study abroad college owned by an American University.
Skill 1: Digitization.
Hunt and Grossman urge us to try and get some experience with working on a digitization project - large or small. I have an ideal opportunity here, as I have just started cataloguing our archives which include a variety of documents - hand written letters, photographs, maps. A small number of these have already been scanned and are stored on an internal server, but I would like to look at ways to open up access to a wider audience. Creating a blog maybe? I am particularly impressed with this example from Abingdon School http://www.abingdon.org.uk/63objects/.
Is anyone else working on a similar project?

For those who are interested in digitisation, the Open Content Licensing for Educators online course may be of use. It covers open education resources, copyright and creative commons licenses. http://wikieducator.org/Open_content_licensing_for_educators/Home
