Forthcoming Events Summer and Autumn 2011

Forthcoming events
Visits programme Summer and Autumn 2011
The following visits have been organised by the Branch with the following aims in mind:

·      To support candidates for Chartership and Certification
·      To help those who for are looking for another post or are currently not working to keep up to date with developments across various sectors of libraries
·      To give an insight to those who have worked in one sector a broader knowledge

The visits are all a half day in duration and are at no cost to participants.  There will be opportunities for networking as well as looking at the institution.  There are limits on some of the visits.

The Branch would like to thank all those who have helped us to organise these visits at a particularly difficult time for all in the public sector.

Nottingham Trent University: Boots Library 30.6.11:  2.00 – 4.15
This is one of three libraries in the University on the City centre campus.   Like all publicly funded bodies, NTU have to reshape their service on a regular basis.  http://www.ntu.ac.uk/llr/

Nottingham Central Library 21.9.2011:  2.00.- 4.15
Nottingham City Libraries have embraced the concept of joint service centres in community libraries and at Nottingham Central Library.  How have they coped with the demands and tensions this can bring?

Nottingham Prison 12.10.2011:  time to be advised
There will be a limit of 12 people for this visit and there will be some security checks made.  Further details will be made available to those who opt into this visit.

The Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland, Long Street, Wigston Magna LE18 2AH 17.11.2011; 2.00.- 4.15
Like other places visited in this programme, the Record Office has to undergo cuts to the budget, made more complex by the fact it is a joint service for 3 local authorities.  It is not only an archive, but also houses a major collection of Local Studies material for Leicestershire, Leicester city and Rutland within a converted Victorian school building. http://www.leics.gov.uk/record_office.htm
